The Martyrs Memorial United Methodist Church is situated in 0199 Qurino Avenue, Barangay Tambo, Parañaque City. It is considered as one of the oldest churches within the city and it also earned the distinction of being the first Methodist Church in the southern Metro Manila area.
The church was established in 1901 in Mabong, Pasay by American Methodists. It was subsequently transferred in Pildira, Pasay in 1915 and in its present location in 1917. The church premises suffered a major blow during World War II when it was hit by a bomb which claimed the lives of seventy-seven Filipinos. My Mom told me that a cross served as a marker for this event; however that cross was already removed. In the 1950s, the church was renovated through the help and generosity of the Philippine War Damages Commission and the Trinity of the United States.
Currently, the church is undergoing major renovation as can be inferred from its ceiling. There are plans of redecorating the main altar and introducing major repairs for the entire church structure.
